Inter CEO Beppe Marotta said the Nerazzurri have a ‘winning approach’ and believes the Champions League ‘helped us grow’ ahead of the opening game against Real Madrid.

The Beneamata were eliminated from the group stage last term but ended up winning the Scudetto in Italy.

Tonight, they are back among the European elite and host Real Madrid for the second consecutive year.

“It’s a particular atmosphere, very beautiful,” Marotta told Infinity+. “There’s an important game against an important opponent. I hope it will be a good match and an advert for football.”

Inter and Real Madrid are the two favourites in the group and Marotta knows it will be ‘important to start well’ but believes it’s not a ‘decisive’ for the final outcome.

“I don’t think it’s decisive, but it’s important to start well. Both for the result and for the performance,” he said. “There’s a new coach and new players, there must be a positive approach.

“There are many games available, you must have confidence.”

He believes Inter have grown during his time with the club and claims the ‘experience gained’ in the competition could be vital this term.

“Two years ago we reached the Europa League Final, last year we won the Scudetto,” he said. “There’s a winning approach.

“The experience gained in the Champions League, even with the elimination from the group stage, has brought a greater awareness and thus a continuous and evident growth.”
