Inter chief Beppe Marotta confirms Lautaro Martinez’s contract talks are progressing well and his staff ‘brought people together during a situation that to others seemed to be on the verge of being defeatist.’
While Steven Zhang is the President and representative of owners Suning, the day-to-day running of the club is in the hands of CEO Marotta.
Many also credit him with steering the Nerazzurri through the minefield of financial problems this summer, the exit of coach Antonio Conte, stars Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi to build what remains a competitive side.
“We had to act quickly when faced with the problems that emerged, that is part of the game,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.
“If there is a strong team behind the scenes, then big problems can be made to seem small. I have to say that I have excellent collaborators like Piero Ausilio and Dario Baccin, but the whole staff in general is strong.
“We brought people together during a situation that to others seemed to be on the verge of being defeatist.”
Meanwhile, Inter are working to lock down striker Lautaro Martinez to a new contract until June 2023.
“We are progressing well, as with others too. There aren’t any big problems in that sense.”
Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic are more urgent matters, as their contracts are due to expire at the end of this season.
