Supercoppa Liveblog: Inter vs. Juventus

“This is a very prestigious and important trophy, we are playing the Derby d’Italia, a fixture called this because of the importance Inter and Juventus have in Italian football,” Marotta told Sport Mediaset.

“There are always going to be unknown quantities in a game like this and we want to be ready for all of them.”

Marotta was asked about reports that Inter had agreed a new contract with Marcelo Brozovic, whose deal is due to expire in June.

“With regards to Brozovic, I can say the most important thing is that both parties want to reach an agreement. We haven’t reached it yet, but I am confident and optimistic that we will do that very soon.

“The management of Inter is a team within a team, as Piero Ausilio, Dario Baccin and I try to support the coach. The work done so far by Inzaghi has been egregious, very positive and we are very satisfied. The important thing now is to continue at this pace.

“Inter are on splendid form, both in terms of results and performances. The Supercoppa is a one-off match decided over 90 minutes, perhaps more, and Juventus are perhaps more accustomed to playing in Finals than we are.

“Having said that, I feel optimistic here too, as I saw a team that looked motivated, confident and well-prepared.”

Marotta was the director of Juventus for over a decade with huge success, so how does he think they will be dealing with the pressure to get back on track?

“Pressure is an ‘ordinary’ characteristic for a side that aims to win trophies. Inter’s history is rich with success and cups, so we should have pressure and pride when going out there to win, of course while respecting our opponents.”
