Juventus CEO Beppe Marotta says opponents raise their game whenever playing against the Serie A champions.

The Bianconeri take on Inter in the Derby D’Italia on Sunday afternoon and, in the build up to the match at San Siro, the director admitted he expected a different Nerazzurri performance to their display on Thursday night, when they were beaten 2-0 in the Europa League by Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

“It is an important match, we know that against Juventus our opponents’ motivation increases and it will be different to Thursday and previous matches,” Marotta told Premium Sport.

“We need to try to get the most out of it. I am certain that in the Derby D’Italia the motivation of our players is very strong.”

The 59-year-old was then asked about the audible grumblings in the Juventus Stadium crowd during the Old Lady’s goalless Champions League draw with Sevilla, as well as defender Leonardo Bonucci’s post-match comments condemning the attitude of the home supporters.

“We are used to dealing with this criticism, it is part of the game. Bonucci’s comments were heard, he is an important player and it is right that he made them.

“The squad we have today is a competitive one and we are happy with what we have done.

“It needs time to bed in the new players who are of a great calibre. Allegri’s work is proceeding as well as it can, but we are talking about a Juventus squad with a high quality.”
