Inter director Beppe Marotta insists Milan Skriniar will not bow to the ‘veiled threat’ from PSG, while confirming one of Francesco Acerbi, Manuel Akanji and Trevoh Chalobah will join.

The Serie A match with Lazio kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

The inevitable topic of discussion for the director was Skriniar after Paris Saint-Germain patron Nasser Al-Khelaifi hinted he could try to sign the centre-back as a free agent next summer.

“I can say that club owners made it very clear last week they do not want to get flattered by PSG offers,” Marotta told DAZN.

“I can therefore confirm that Skriniar is a very important element of our team and as such will certainly remain with us.”

Skriniar’s contract only runs to June 2023, so turning down over €50m could be a dangerous game for the Nerazzurri, armed with only the defender’s promise to extend.

“He is a good lad, we will open a dialogue with him soon and this is a negotiation, because we certainly want to sign a contract that can hold him to Inter for many years.

“I trust the man and his professionalism, I think this veiled threat is insufficient to damage the personal values that this player has.”

Curiously, Inter are up against Lazio this evening, who they are in talks with for defender Francesco Acerbi.

“We lack one element to complete the squad. There are several options and we are evaluating them before reaching a conclusion over the next few days.

“Acerbi was proposed to us, we will evaluate it.”

Marotta was asked if this was going to be a three-horse race between Acerbi, Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and Manuel Akanji of Borussia Dortmund.

“Yes, that is certainly accurate.”
