Inter President and CEO Beppe Marotta has paid tribute to several key Nerazzurri figures from years gone by during a speech at an event commemorating the club’s 20th Serie A title win, suggesting that those who ‘deserve to win, win’.

Inter hosted a launch event for their film ‘Due stelle sul cuore’ on Thursday, commemorating the 2023-24 season, which resulted in the club’s 20th domestic league title.

Marotta said that he felt the event closed the 2023-24 cycle, but he believes the film will go on to become an important piece of Nerazzurri history.

“It’s a particularly touching moment for me, having seen the film again brings a lot of emotions. Today completes the extraordinary journey of our team, coach and everybody at Inter who achieved what has been described as a dream,” Marotta said.

“Aside from its artistic value, this film is a relic that will always remind us of the values that we had last season.”

Inter President Marotta: ‘The ones who deserve to win, win’

“Winning is an extraordinary feeling, you don’t win by luck, there has to be values as well. In the end, the ones who deserve to win, win,” Marotta added.

The Nerazzurri President also fondly remembers the night that the title was secured, which came ‘away’ against Milan in San Siro with several games of the season left to play. He did admit that he didn’t particularly enjoy the build-up to that day.

“I know what we all went through that evening (April 22), tension on everybody’s faces. It was an emotional moment.”

Marotta was full of pride looking back on Inter’s Scudetto win last season, but he clarified that last season’s success would not have been possible without the efforts of those connected to the club in years gone by.

“Today we celebrate the second star, but I can’t do that without remembering the past. I will never forget the Scudetto won by (Helenio) Herrera, who was then replaced by (Giovanni) Invernizzi.

“We would not have got to the 20th Scudetto under Zhang without going through those moments. We also remember past Presidents like Ernesto Pellegrini, Giacinto Facchetti, Massimo Moratti.

“And the coaches: Herrera, Invernizzi, (Eugenio) Bersellini, Roberto Mancini, (Jose) Mourinho, (Antonio) Conte, (Simone) Inzaghi. They all contributed to the second star. What unites us is football, passion, love for this job and for Inter. We can’t forget all the players from the past.”
