Hakan Calhanoglu posted in Inter‘s group chat as soon as Beppe Marotta was named new club President on Tuesday: ‘We are happy.’

Marotta was named Inter President on Tuesday morning when new owners Oaktree named their board of directors.

Nerazzurri star Calhanoglu was the first Inter player to publicly discuss this big change at the club. He did so after an international friendly against Italy at the Stadio Dall’Ara in Bologna.

“I already sent a message in the group chat,” the experienced midfielder told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are happy. Marotta is always important to us. He’s always done great things for the club.”

Marotta has been at Inter since 2018 and has won five trophies at the Stadio Meazza, including two Serie A titles.

American fund Oaktree recently took control of the club after Steven Zhang failed to repay a debt of nearly €400m, including interests.

Marotta previously worked as the club’s CEO, the same role he had covered at Juventus from 2010 to 2018.

Calhanoglu’s Turkey held Italy to a 0-0 draw in Bologna yesterday.

The 31-year-old also spoke about his expectations ahead of Euro 2024 and said he hopes Nicolò Barella soon recovers from a minor injury that prevented him from being available in yesterday’s friendly.
