Director General Giuseppe Marotta reveals that Juventus are 'looking for a midfielder' and recognises Inter as 'absolutely a competitor for the Scudetto'.

There is a frenzy of attention around Juventus as the kick-off for the Supercup final against Lazio is now less than 24 hours away.

Captain Gianluigi Buffon said patience would be required to win the game, but Marotta sees the question of drive as more crucial.

“Juventus have patience, sure, but the drive to win always expresses itself in the immediate future,” he said.

“This is an official appointment and a trophy we care about.

“So we necessarily have to win it, regardless of the fact that we may have changed some of our points of reference.”

Marotta was then asked whether Juventus had already pretty much closed their mercato, or whether another step was being prepared.

“We're looking for a midfielder. He doesn't necessarily have to be unique, but his profile must be of the right calibre to play with Juventus.

“[Mario] Gotze and [Julian] Draxler? We probed for them, but we never got to the real negotiations.

“Our rivals? I'm impressed with Inter. Considering their investments, they should absolutely be considered an authoritative competitor for the Scudetto.”
