Higuain has been dropped in favour of Mario Mandzukic, supported by Paulo Dybala and Douglas Costa.
“It’s not a surprise, because games last more than 90 minutes now and using different players is the best option,” Marotta told Rai Sport.
“Massimiliano Allegri sees them train during the week and can choose the best players for that game and situation, so we’ll see if Higuain can have an impact later on.
“This is a one-off match, it represents certainly Milan’s most important appointment of the season, it’s important for us too, and we’ll be able to challenge them on level terms.”
