“The objective of the club and the Zhang family is to make investments, taking the opportunities that the market offers,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

“I will not hide that we are in an advanced stage of the negotiations, but I also wish to underline the importance of the current squad that will play against Parma this evening.

“(Inter director Piero) Ausilio did an excellent job on the negotiations. We still have to reach a conclusion, but tomorrow will be an important day and we’ll see how to define the situation. I am optimistic. Ausilio deserves credit for the work he has done over the last few months.”

Marotta was also asked about other potential investments over the summer, such as Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali.

“As I said, the club wants to raise the bar, thinking of the economic possibilities in a situation post-Coronavirus that is particularly tricky. We’ll see what the market has to offer.

“This Hakimi operation is very important. The owners gave us the possibility of taking the chance and deserve credit for that.”
