Inter CEO Beppe Marotta did not seem anxious when asked about the contract renewal talks with Alessandro Bastoni, highlighting his ‘confidence’.

The 23-year-old Italian centre back has just over a year left on his contract with the Nerazzurri, attracting the attention of Manchester City and Chelsea, and the club didn’t want a repeat of the Milan Skriniar situation, so they’ve opened contract negotiations.

Bastoni’s agent Tullio Tinti met with Inter’s management on Wednesday and seemed positive after the meeting, telling the media that his client had ‘great interest’ in staying with the club. Reports suggested a difference of around €1.5m in wages between the requests and the offer.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Lega Serie A assembly, Marotta was asked if Inter felt confident that Bastoni would agree a new deal with the club. He kept his reply brief, saying: “Yes, confidence, confidence, confidence…”

Bastoni has been a core part of Simone Inzaghi’s squad in the Lombardy capital this season, providing five assists in his 30 appearances across all competitions.
