Just a few hours before kick-off, Inter announced that Achraf Hakimi had tested positive for COVID-19.

“We received news from UEFA after the tests performed 48 hours before the match by their laboratory, news that Hakimi had tested positive,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

There are discussions in the Serie A clubs to scrap the limits on squad sizes in order to help them keep the campaign going.

“The protocol was drawn up in rigid fashion to ensure we could finish the season. The rules state that as long as there are under 10 positive cases, no action needs to be taken.

“However, if we were to expand the existing squads, then that would give more options and allow for a more entertaining spectacle in the games.”

Alexis Sanchez starts this evening rather than Lautaro Martinez in attack for Inter.

“This is an anomalous season, so apart from the Sword of Damocles represented by COVID, we also have a compressed fixture list. It makes squad rotation even more important, especially after international duty with trips halfway across the world.

“We have an excellent rapport with Lautaro and there is absolutely no rush over a new contract.”
