This is a return to Turin not just for Antonio Conte, but also Marotta, who was the director of sport when Juve began that nine-year winning streak and ended it for Inter.

“We come here as Champions of Italy and that makes us very happy. We are managers, so we know that we begin and end adventures at clubs, because that’s the way it has to be,” Marotta told Sky Sport italia.

“I am glad to have arrived at an historic club like Inter with a packed trophy cabinet and hope to create a new era here.

“When you win, there is always strong emotion and we honestly did not expect to achieve this target so early. President Steven Zhang has been in Milan for a few weeks, this is the Derby d’Italia and so it’s only right that the President is by our side.”

Marotta was asked if Juventus perhaps regret pushing him out in favour of Fabio Paratici, his previous assistant, but shrugged off the question.

“We have turned over a new leaf, this is what happens with coaches and directors. I must say the move to Inter brought great motivation and excitement, we are all very happy to have won this Scudetto.”

Finally, the director was asked if there is a gap between the Inter Conte wants next season and the team they can provide.

“Conte is a winning coach and proved that again at Inter. Naturally, winning coaches are very ambitious, so his era started very well and quite rightly he only wants to improve it. That is true for all of us.

“Next week, if not earlier, there will be a meeting between the coach and President, so I believe and hope that we can continue together.”
