Inter CEO Beppe Marotta confirms Achraf Hakimi ‘will leave the club’ and hopes Lautaro Martinez stays at the Giuseppe Meazza.

The Morocco international is set to leave the Nerazzurri after just one season at the club.

The Serie A giants needed to sell at least one of their stars to keep the books balanced, so the 22-year-old will join PSG for a reported €70m fee.

“It’s an important sale for the club, oxygen for the club’s finances,” the Inter director told Dribbling Europei.

The Nerazzurri should not sell another of their top players, although Lautaro Martinez reportedly attracted interest from many European clubs such as Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

Inter, however, are planning to keep hold of the Argentinean striker.

“He is one of those we want to keep. Until the players ask to leave, I am optimistic that he will play a key role in Inter’s attack next season,” Marotta said, apparently keeping a door open to his exit.

The Nerazzurri have signed Hakan Calhanoglu as the future of Christian Eriksen in Serie A appears in doubt given that it is forbidden to play with a heart defibrillator implanted.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening UEFA Euro 2020 clash Finland last month.

“There is great respect for the man before then for the footballer. We hope he recovers his health and his full efficiency. After that, we will evaluate the sporting aspects that at this time are definitely less important,” Marotta said.

The Nerazzurri will begin their pre-season on July 8, with new coach Simone Inzaghi at the helm.

Antonio Conte left the Nerazzurri after winning the first Serie A title at the club in 11 years.

“Inzaghi is one of Italy’s most winning coaches, he is similar to Conte, so we thought he was the ideal candidate to replace another winner.”
