After weeks of tension, Mario Rui has now agreed to sign a new contract extension with Napoli, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

The 32-year-old Portuguese full back featured regularly under Luciano Spalletti in the Partenopei’s Scudetto winning campaign, seeing over 2100 minutes of action across 28 total appearances.

In recent weeks, tension started to brew between Rui and Napoli. The player had wanted a new contract for a while and the lack of progress pushed him to tell the club that he’d like to leave should adequate offers arrive this month.

Di Marzio details how Rui has now agreed to sign a one-year contract extension with Napoli, pushing his deal back from 2025 to 2026, resolving the tensions.

The renewal is the latest carried out by Napoli in recent weeks; the defending champions have already tied down captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo to a new deal and work is ongoing to extend star striker Victor Osimhen.
