Napoli left-back Mario Rui is in no rush for the Champions League to resume. “If I start thinking about Lionel Messi and Barcelona now, I will get a headache!”

The Partenopei had a difficult end to 2019, sacking Carlo Ancelotti and hiring Gennaro Gattuso as his replacement as their league form dipped in the last two months of the year.

“We needed this break, to recharge the batteries. We are working well. On Monday we will be 100%," Mario Rui told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“Each coach has its own way of working, first we did as Ancelotti wanted, now Gattuso."

Napoli face Inter next Monday at the San Paolo, and the Portugal international expects a tough test from the joint Serie A leaders.

“I expected a strong Inter, they were missing something in these last few years, but with Antonio Conte they have improved.

“They are a team that runs, that have both quality and quantity. They will make us suffer, but we are ready.”

Napoli were drawn against Barcelona in Round of 16 in the Champions League, but the tie isn’t until February.

“If I start to think about Messi and Barcelona now I'll get a headache! I’m lucky, it is a dream to play against the best and be on the same pitch as them.”

Napoli scraped to a 2-1 win against Sassuolo just before the winter break, which was their first win in two months in Serie A, but Mario Rui wants the fans to forget about that period.

“The fans should expect our commitment. We want to change what has been done wrong. I ask them to forget what has happened in the last few months and to all be together on the same side.”
