Pasquale Marino brings Alberto Gilardino to Lecce for moral support, as Genoa try to interrupt their poor run of results.

The Grifone are without a win in four rounds and now have the worst defensive record in Serie A.

“Gilardino is not able to play yet, but he asked to come with us to help out with team spirit and stay with his teammates in this difficult time,” explained the Coach.

“Lecce are very good at the counter-attack, in some terms similar to Parma, as they have very mobile players who you cannot leave in space.

“This means we must be particularly attentive in possession, because if we lose the ball then they know how to attack us quickly. There is a lot at stake and we’ve got to be right in the game from the start.

“Don’t forget we’ll be facing rapid attackers like Luis Muriel, Juan Cuadrado and David Di Michele.”

Genoa looked set to lose four on the trot, but fought back from 2-0 down to snatch a last-gasp draw against Parma last week.

“I hope that gives us a push forward to find consistency. Everyone has made steps forward and I can see the squad improving overall.”

There was also controversy, as it’s reported Genoa found small cameras sneaking recordings of their training sessions.

“I didn’t even realise someone was spying on us, but I have nothing to hide anyway,” replied Marino.
