“These are evenings that speak to an incredible history, a journey that probably started in 2020, with the win over Valencia, the final phase in Portugal, what happened in Bergamo,” Marino told Sky Sport Italia.
Bergamo was the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic and by far the hardest-hit town, largely in part because their Round of 16 game with Valencia became a superspreader event.
“There is so much to be said of everything we went through as a city and a club. There is a lot of emotion around this game and event.
“We feel the responsibility to give something back, to give joy to a fanbase that has gone through so much.”
