Atalanta striker Guido Marilungo has snapped the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee for the second time this year.

The Under-21 international seemed to recognise what had happened when he was stretchered off in tears during Wednesday’s Coppa Italia game against Cesena.

He had only recently returned to action after suffering the exact same injury on March 18, which ruled him out for six months.

Today tests confirmed the worst case scenario and 23-year-old Marilungo will need surgery with another six-month lay-off.
