Chelsea are in the closing stages of negotiations with Enzo Maresca as they push to hire the Leicester City head coach, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

The Blues have been on the hunt for a new coach following the decision to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the Premier League season, wanting to start a new project in West London.

Maresca impressed in his debut season in charge of Leicester, quickly guiding them back up to the Premier League following his arrival last year. He previously worked with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and had a brief spell in the dugout at Parma.

As detailed by Di Marzio, Maresca emerged as the leading candidate in Chelsea’s search for a new coach and negotiations have developed over the last few days, with the two parties getting increasingly close. Only the final details now remain to reach a total agreement.

The 44-year-old would become the seventh Italian to take charge of the Blues, following in the footsteps of Maurizio Sarri, Antonio Conte, Roberto Di Matteo, Carlo Ancelotti, Claudio Ranieri and Gianluca Vialli.
