Parma coach Enzo Maresca is ‘delighted’ that Gianluigi Buffon returns to the Gialloblu this summer. ‘His teammates will have an example to follow’.

The Ducali appointed the former Manchester City U23 coach as their new tactician ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Parma were relegated from Serie A last term and aim to bounce back immediately, giving Maresca the task to succeed Roberto D’Aversa at the helm.

The Crociati then announced the return of Buffon, 20 years after he left the Ennio Tardini, and the new coach feels the 43-year-old will be an excellent addition to the crop.

“I’m delighted with his arrival and sure of his tremendous desire to continue making a difference from all points of view,” Maresca told Sportweek.

“His teammates will have a point of reference and an example to follow. I played with him for several years and have a wonderful opinion of him, as a player and above all as a man.”

Maresca was a Juventus player between 2000 and 2005, but spent stints on loan with Bologna, Piacenza and Fiorentina before he moved on a permanent deal to Sevilla.
