Maresca has already been approached before and is currently in charge of the Manchester City Elite Development Squad team, winning the youth version of the Premier League.

This would be a return to Samp for Maresca, who played for the club in 2012-14.

Another potential comeback would be for Mazzarri, who had great success with the Blucerchiati as their coach from 2007-09, reaching the Coppa Italia Final and qualifying for the UEFA Cup.

A third candidate is Liverani, who was in charge of Lecce last season and had started the campaign at Parma before he was sacked.
