Dario Marcolin worked with both Roberto Mancini and Sinisa Mihajlovic, so gives the lowdown on the Coaches.
“They certainly have in common a very strong personality,” Marcolin told the Corriere dello Sport.
“Both are leaders, even if they express themselves in very different ways. Their charisma, which was evident even as players, means it’s impossible not to follow them.

“They certainly have in common a very strong personality,” Marcolin told the Corriere dello Sport.
“Both are leaders, even if they express themselves in very different ways. Their charisma, which was evident even as players, means it’s impossible not to follow them.
“They have a very different strategy when it comes to working with the players. Mancini is always open to dialogue with everyone, but those who don’t want to follow him will be pushed to one side.
“Mihajlovic always seeks a confrontation, even at the cost of creating an out-and-out battle so that he can impose his ideas.
“Both were and remain very meticulous and precise. Sinisa is certainly more instinctive than Roberto, but learned to perfect that side of himself which Mancini always had even as a player.
“Mancini always tells his Presidents ‘If we buy these two or three champions, we can win the Scudetto and Champions League!’
“As for Mihajlovic, he gets fired up by almost impossible challenges. When he talks to his players, he says ‘The bigger the opponent, the greater our victory!’ That is often a very effective strategy.”
Mihajlovic was Mancini’s assistant manager at Inter, so did they complete each other?
“No, I’d say they were both well and truly complete Coaches. I remember at Inter they’d both deal with only the 11 first choice players, while Fausto Salsano and I would train the others.
“Roberto has won everywhere and is very good at building teams. He has a remarkable knowledge of football on an international level. He has never failed and he won’t fail this time either.”
