Juventus legend Claudio Marchisio believes the Old Lady deserved a penalty kick against Nantes on Thursday but insists that the ‘real injustice’ is the points deduction in Serie A.

The ex-Italian midfielder commented on the first leg of the Europa League play-off on Twitter after seeing the Old Lady held to a 1-1 draw by the Ligue 1 side on Thursday.

Marchisio’s original tweet was about Danilo. The ex-Bianconeri captain praised the Brazilian defender saying that he has hardly seen a foreign Juventus player who is so important on and off the pitch.

He continued by interacting with fans who mostly complained about a late penalty kick they were not awarded last night.

Marchisio agreed that the handball from a Nantes defender was worthy of a spot-kick but added: “The real injustice is to hand a point deduction during the season. The team had done everything they could. They were second after an absurd start in Serie A and Champions League. Tonight they picked up a draw against the 13th-placed in Ligue 1, let’s hope for the return leg.”

Marchisio, a product of the Juventus academy, scored 37 goals in 389 matches with the Serie A giants before leaving in 2018 for Zenit St. Petersburg. He retired in 2019 after winning seven Scudetti and three Coppa Italia with the Old Lady.
