Claudio Marchisio believes his Juventus teammate Paul Pogba can still improve, and denies his own status as a symbol of the club.

The Italian international echoed the words of Bianconeri Coach Massimiliano Allegri, who yesterday insisted that Pogba ‘does less than he could’.

“His explosion would have come even if I hadn’t been injured,” Marchisio told Calcio2000 of Pogba’s introduction to the team in 2012.

“We’re talking about a raw talent, he still has a lot of room for improvement. He’s lucky to be maturing in the right environment, because Juventus doesn’t miss out on an opportunity to develop young talent.

“They allow you to mature in a quiet manner, without too many distractions in your mind. The city of Turin also helps you in this way.”

Marchisio has been at Juventus all his career, but rejects talk that he is already a symbol of the club like Alessandro Del Piero or Giampiero Boniperti.

“When you speak of someone as a symbol it means they’re close to retirement.

“I think I still have a few years before that, but to become a symbol of this team is my dream. Being a symbol doesn’t just mean spending many years with the same club.

“What counts is what you do and how you do it, and the spirit you transmit to the fans.

“I remember some players who were at Juventus for less time than others, but still found their way into the hearts of the fans.”
