Juventus legend Claudio Marchisio believes the Old Lady should regret not signing Gigio Donnarumma and insists Paulo Dybala must be ‘more consistent.’

The Argentinean striker has reportedly reached an agreement to extend his stay at the club beyond 2022.

His current deal expires in the summer, but Dybala is expected to put pen to paper on a new agreement with the Serie A giants.

The former Palermo man will become the second best-paid player at the club after Matthijs de Ligt with a salary of €10m-a-year, including add-ons.

Dybala and Marchisio spent a few years together at Juventus and although the former midfielder is happy with Dybala’s extension, he believes that the Argentinean should make a further step forward.

“I’d be happy if he renewed, there are only a few players with his quality, even if Paulo must do more,” Marchisio told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He’s alternated outstanding campaigns to seasons where he could have done more. He must be more consistent and he knows that.”

The former Italy midfielder also believes Juventus should regret not signing Gigio Donnarumma who was available as a free agent in the summer.

“Yes, Gigio is a champion and he would have helped create that group of Italian players, which has always been crucial at Juventus,” Marchisio said.

“Donnarumma, [Manuel] Locatelli, [Federico] Chiesa, [Federico] Bernardeschi, he would have been the last touch of a generational change which is very close and will be completed once Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini retire.”

The Italian goalkeeper held talks with the Bianconeri in the summer, but eventually joined PSG at the end of his contract with Milan.

Marchisio, a product of Juventus academy, played 389 games in a Bianconeri shirt, scoring 37 goals.
