Italian goalkeeping legend Dino Zoff says it is too soon to be comparing Federico Marchetti to Lazio idol Angelo Peruzzi.

Marchetti, an Italian international, is impressing at the Stadio Olimpico following his summer move to the capital from Cagliari” data-scaytid=”19″>Cagliari.

“It’s premature to put Marchetti and Peruzzi on the same level,” the 1982 World Cup winner noted.

“It’s legitimate to think of the comparison, but Marchetti has to perform at Lazio for a couple of seasons – not just four games…

“He has the potential that is needed, but he’ll need years to reach the level of Peruzzi.”

Peruzzi, a 2006 World Cup winner, spent seven years with the Biancocelesti after his 2000 switch from Inter.

Marchetti is getting his career back on the right path after he missed all of the last campaign in Sardinia following a clash with Cagliari President Massimo Cellino.

“Marchetti is returning to his best,” Zoff added. “After a few mediocre games, he is now doing some excellent things.”

Marchetti, who played for Italy at the 2010 World Cup, was instrumental in Lazio’s 0-0 draw at Napoli on Saturday.
