Real Madrid legend Marcelo reveals he argued with Carlo Ancelotti last season: ‘I got really angry with him, but…’

The Brazilian defender has left the Merengues after fifteen and a half years at the club and said goodbye to Madrid at a press conference on Monday.

“I felt a lot of responsibility this season and really got angry with Ancelotti. We argued, but the following day we hugged and kissed,” he said.

“Eventually, I realised that in order to help the team win the title or the Champions League, it doesn’t matter how much you play. What matters is to understand the coach and the team.

“Of course, I wanted to play more because I am Marcelo and all that, but to me, the best thing was to see the players and my teammates win a trophy. I felt important even if I didn’t play the final.”

Marcelo won the Champions League five times at the Santiago Bernabeu, twice with Ancelotti in charge. Overall, he won 25 trophies with the La Liga giants. The Brazilian defender played 110 games under the Italian tactician.

Ancelotti looked emotional during Marcelo’s farewell press conference. He has become the first coach to win the title in Europe’s top five leagues and the coach with the most victories in the Champions League, having lifted the trophy four times.

The 64-year-old returned to Madrid last summer, signing a three-year deal at the Estadio Bernabeu.

Marcelo played 17 games under the former Milan coach last season, delivering two assists. He leaves Madrid after 546 appearances with the club.
