Cagliari started the year with a heavy 4-0 defeat to Juventus and prolonged their losing streak to three games.

Maran conceded that the defeat has made them more “focused” in their preparation ahead of a visit from the Diavolo on Saturday.

“There’s a lot of anger,” Maran said at a press conference. “We obviously wanted to start the year in a different way.

“We had to be perfect and we weren’t, but it allowed us to be focused throughout this week.

“We need to get rid of the aura of the defeats, but we will end the first half of the season at sixth place, no matter what,” he said. “It would be great to overcome this moment against a big team like Milan.”

He said the Italy international Alessio Cragno will be back on the bench against the Rossoneri, but only to reward him after a long spell on the sidelines.

“Cacciatore and Ceppitelli are out, as well as Pavoletti,” he added. “Cragno comes with us, but only to give him a boost.

“We are focused on the match tomorrow. [Nahitan] Nandez needed the break. He is visibly recovering.”

Maran said it’s important that “champions” like Ibrahimovic plays in Italy and claimed it was difficult to prepare for the Rossoneri match due to all their changes this campaign.

“The arrival of Ibrahimovic is a good thing for Serie A. I think it’s a positive sign that champions like him play in our League,” Maran said. “He will be their focal point; we will have to stop the deliveries.

“It’s difficult to say, Milan have had a lot of changes this campaign. It’s difficult to prepare for the game. It’s not easy to study them. They have really changed a lot so far.”
