“We have lost three in a row, but those results were undeserved and due also to a very difficult fixture list,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“Tomorrow’s game will be very important, because we want to interrupt this run of defeats. We must continue along our path.”

The Sardinians had practically celebrated their Serie A safety several weeks ago, but their prospects have since crumbled and Empoli staged a comeback.

“Nobody expected a run like this after the Frosinone game, but we are still in good shape mentally. The defeat to Roma was the one that left a bitter taste in the mouth, as we could’ve done far better.

“Tomorrow, Genoa have everything at stake and I expect them to be really fired up.”

Maran confirmed Artur Ionita is back in the squad, but Lucas Castro is “unlikely” to be in the starting XI after months out with injury.

Cagliari squad for Genoa: Rafael, Aresti, Cragno; Pellegrini, Cacciatore, Klavan, Pisacane, Lykogiannis, Srna, Romagna; Bradaric, Cigarini, Birsa, Oliva, Barella, Padoin, Ionita, Deiola, Castro; Cerri, Joao Pedro, Pavoletti, Despodov
