“I saw the lads play as a team again last week, they felt freer in training too, so the performance against Brescia certainly helped, even if it was only a draw,” said the coach in his press conference.

Cagliari lost 4-1 to Inter in the Coppa Italia earlier this month and changed their system to 3-5-2 in order to mirror Antonio Conte’s tactics, so will Maran do that again?

“We tried out a few different options, but the Coppa Italia game was more about having the wrong mentality than tactics. What I can say is that Alessio Cragno will start in goal, as he needs to gain confidence by getting back on the field.”

Fabio Pisacane is suspended, with Fabrizio Cacciatore, Marko Rog, Alberto Cerri, Daniele Ragatzu, Federico Mattiello and Luca Ceppitelli injured.

“Lucas Castro is also available, there are rules, but everything has been sorted out now. We’ll miss Marko Rog along with quite a few other players, but those are present will make sure we are not unprepared.”

The Sardinians were in fourth place only a couple of months ago, but have since plummeted down the Serie A table.

“We’re getting more shots on goal since November, but also conceding a lot more. We’ve got to have more faith in ourselves to turn the trend around and we saw signs of that against Brescia.

“Everyone knows how strong Inter are, but we did well against them in the second half of the Coppa Italia and want to build on the Brescia performance too.”

Cagliari squad for Inter: Rafael, Cragno, Olsen; Mattiello, Klavan, Lykogiannis, Faragò, Pellegrini, Porru, Walukiewicz; Nainggolan, Cigarini, Birsa, Oliva, Nandez, Ionita, Castro; Joao Pedro, Gagliano, Simeone
