Diego Armando Maradona’s son broke into tears and celebrated Argentina’s World Cup win in the streets of Naples, praising Leo Messi: ‘Nobody deserved this more than you.’

The GOAT debate does not seem to bother Diego Armando Maradona Jr, son of the Napoli legend who died in November 2020.

The 36-year-old celebrated Argentina’s World Cup victory on Instagram with several stories, including one where he broke into tears after the penalty shootout that allowed the South Americans to lift their third World Cup.

He also praised Argentina defenders Cristian Romero and Nicolas Otamendi as well as goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and Leandro Paredes.

Maradona Jr was among those who flooded the streets of Naples on Sunday. He wore an Argentina shirt and a flag with the image of his father.

“Argentina are World Cup champions, happy for you, Leo Messi, because nobody deserved this cup more than you,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Happy for all my people and my country. I’ve always felt Argentinean in y soul. My father is celebrating up there, you don’t know how much I want to hug you.”

Maradona’s son lives in Naples and is the coach of the non-professional side Napoli United. He was born on September 20, 1986, just a few months after Argentina’s World Cup victory in Mexico, inspired by his father.
