A famous painting of Napoli legend Diego Maradona’s left foot was stolen in the night by thieves in the Quartieri Spagnoli area of the city.

The Argentine star famously spent seven years of his career in the Campania capital from 1984 to 1991, guiding the team to two Scudetti, a Coppa Italia and a UEFA Cup. Ever a divisive character, Maradona has taken on something of a deific status in Naples and tributes to him can be seen across the city.

As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, thieves stole a famous painting of Maradona’s left foot last night. The work was on display in front of the mural dedicated to the Napoli legend in the famous Quartieri Spagnoli neighbourhood of the city.

Luciano Spalletti’s side now look on track to bring the Scudetto back to the Campania capital for the first time since the days of Maradona, sitting 18 points ahead of second place Inter heading into this weekend.
