It’s a start that has their Greek centre-back believing the Giallorossi can top the so-called ‘Group of Death’.

“There are no limits, we want to get as far as possible [in the Champions League],” the 23-year-old told Il Tempo.

“We’re also at the level where we can win the group. Why not?

“The matches that will be crucial for us are tomorrow [Bayern Munich at home], the return fixture in Munich and the final game at home to Manchester City.

“If we can play like we have done so far, we can finish at the top of the group, I believe it.”

Roma face a opponent in Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich side, who have managed two finals and a semi-final in their last three Champions League campaigns, and Manolas believes the Roma fans will be crucial if his side are to beat the Bavarian outfit.

“It will be a difficult match, against one of the best teams in Europe.

“We will have a full stadium behind us. The Olimpico is fantastic, I was excited by it from the first minute that I played there, against Fiorentina.

“I don’t know how it will end in the Bayern game, but it will definitely be a challenge not to be missed.”
