The first Derby della Scala of the season takes place tomorrow at Bentegodi, with Chievo eight points clear of the Butei.
“Since I’ve been here, they’ve won one more game, but we’ve always finished the season above them,” Mandorlini pointed out in his pre-match Press conference.
“I’d like to finish above them this year. It will be a difficult game, and a hard-fought one. The derby is a special game, everyone is keen to win it, and in principle there are no favourites.
“They’re doing well, congratulations to them, but each team has its own characteristics, and we’re not inferior to anyone.
“The derby will be an important game in terms of nerves, and I want an important performance from my players.
“We’ve shown we can do well, now we have to do better.”
Mandorlini then went on to discuss his tactics for tomorrow, with a number of injuries affecting his squad.
“Broadly speaking I have a team in mind, a lot will depend on whether [Giampaolo] Pazzini recovers in time.
“Sigliardi is in the squad, he’s been training with us since yesterday. It looked like he wouldn’t make it, but he’s managed to recover.”
