Mancini: ‘Wonderful Inter win’

Roberto Mancini explained his outlandish celebration as Inter won with a late Stevan Jovetic strike.

It was hard-fought and looked to be ending goalless when Jovetic curled in a stunning last-gasp winner over 10-man Atalanta.

“I celebrated because I was very happy for the lads. They gave their all to the end, played well and did not deserve to only get a point,” Mancio told Sky Sport Italia.

“Plus Stevan scored a goal on his debut, so it was all wonderful. I expected it to be tough, as Serie A is always extremely difficult at the beginning and Atalanta defend very well.

“Despite us having about 20 shots on target, we had to wait to the very end to score.”

Inter confirmed there will be another offer to Wolfsburg for Ivan Perisic.

“Let’s say there aren’t enough players in the squad. With Mauro Icardi’s injury, we’ve only got two strikers, while in midfield we are a reduced number too.”

Mancini warned the media not to ask too much of €30m signing Geoffrey Kondogbia.

“He is a very young player and he struggled at first because he was unaccustomed to the heavy workload in pre-season training that we do in Italy. He was therefore a little heavy for a while, but over the last few days he’s getting stronger.

“I don’t want too much pressure put on him, as he too needs time to adapt. I am happy with the defence, which went very well despite the fact we’ve only had three games together.

“I thought the Man of the Match was Marcelo Brozovic. It’s positive that we started alright and got better as the game went on, which is a good sign for the fitness levels.”
