Italy CT Roberto Mancini said Marco Verratti ‘is recovering faster than expected’ and believes the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder will be available for Euro 2020.

The 28-year-old suffered a collateral ligament injury during training with PSG and was first expected to be out for four to six weeks, meaning he would at least miss the first two weeks of the European Championship.

But Mancini is optimistic ahead of Italy’s opener against Turkey on June 11 and said the former Pescara man ‘can make it’.

“I think Verratti can make it,” the Italy CT told reporters ahead of the friendly against San Marino in Cagliari. “He has had a huge improvement in 15 days.

“[Inter midfielder Stefano] Sensi worries me a bit. Tomorrow’s friendly is to work on our game plan and to evaluate some of the players.

“The medical staff is treating the injured players. [Roma midfielder Lorenzo] Pellegrini is improving a lot, Verratti is recovering faster than expected, Sensi must be assessed over the next days.”

Mancini added he’s not worried about the players being distracted by the rumours of the transfer market.

“The lads are calm and relaxed, the transfer market always coincide with a European Championship or a World Cup, but I don’t see any major problems.”
