Roberto Mancini is reportedly expanding his work with the Italian national team, remaining head coach and becoming the supervisor of the Under-21 side.

The 58-year-old Italian tactician did well to restore glory to the Azzurri after a difficult period, guiding them to victory in Euro 2020, but things have taken a downward turn since.

Italy failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup and fans have increasingly started to doubt Mancini’s suitability for the role, believing that it may be time to change to kickstart a new era for the national team.

As reported by Corriere della Sera via TMW, Mancini wants to take on a new role within the Italy set-up and will become the supervisor of the U-21 squad.

The idea is to increase synergy between the senior side and the youth system, so the U-21 will start working in a 4-3-3 system to allow them to more easily progress up the ranks.

Mancini came up with the idea himself and talked about it with FIGC president Gabriele Gravina during the training camp in the Netherlands.
