The striker left Brescia after the relegation to Serie B and has moved to Monza in the same division, but he has struggled with injuries since his move.

Balotelli, who has experience from Inter, Manchester City, Milan, Liverpool and Nice, scored in his only appearance in the second tie.

Mancini has multiple times defended his former pupil, who has not managed to reach his potential, and claims the forward is still one of the most technically gifted players in Italy.

“The doors of the national team are open to everyone,” Mancini said in an interview with Tiki Taka. “Mario is still the Italian player with the best technical qualities.

“In recent years he has lost a little, but he’s still young, he’s 30.”

Mancini said he wants to return to coaching a club and announced he will step down as Italy coach after Qatar 2022.
