“Was I close to being the Coach of Portugal? No, there was never anything in it, just as there is absolutely nothing with Napoli,” Mancini told reporters in Viareggio.
He is one of the candidates to take over either this season or the next should Napoli’s rapport with Rafa Benitez break down.
The tactician had declared publicly he'd be honoured to be offered the Portugal job, but it went to Paulo Bento this week.
Meanwhile, Mancio cast his eye over the current Serie A scenario.
“I think it’s too early to say the top two have broken away in the Scudetto race, although clearly Roma and Juventus are the teams that started off strongest.
“Inter can be the third power in this campaign, but also watch out for Milan. Fiorentina have the usual injury problems and really need Mario Gomez at 100 per cent.
“Napoli have also been unlucky, as they lost some games that they should’ve won.”
