Roma defender Gianluca Mancini is excited to get the 2024-25 Serie A season underway, and believes the club have conducted good business during the transfer window, adding players who are ‘hungry’ and ‘want to be here’.

Roma are due to play Cagliari at the Sant’Elia on Sunday evening, kicking off at 19.45 BST.

The Giallorossi vice-captain feels that he and his teammates have had a productive time away during pre-season, but now the squad are raring to go for their first competitive fixture of the 2024-25 campaign.

What Mancini said about Roma, Cagliari and new Giallorossi signings

“We are prepared, we had a good training camp with the coach and we are ready for the start of the season. There’s always excitement. We go again, together, to do well,” Mancini told DAZN prior to kick-off.

Mancini warns that playing Cagliari, particularly on their own turf, will not be the easiest of feats, even if the visitors have strengthened over the summer.

“It’s a strong Cagliari, we know that it’s difficult to play here. They have changed coach and the first games are always difficult. We come here with lots of ambition and a desire to do well.”

Assessing Roma’s new signings, he feels Daniele De Rossi now has even more ‘good guys’ at his disposal.

Roma have added Enzo Le Fee, Matias Soule, Artem Dovbyk, Samuel Dahl and Maty Ryan to their ranks this window.

“(They are) really good. The new guys are hungry and want to be here. Us older guys, we try to help them in every way we can. They are good guys.”
