Roberto Mancini said it is his “mission” to restore pride in the Italy squad and confessed the weather affected his mood in experiences abroad.
The Azzurri boss sat down with DAZN to discuss his career and first year on the bench of the Nazionale.
“It is without doubt a mission for me. It is first and foremost a great honour to be lucky enough to take this role. Things have to go the right way and the right moment, because many great Coaches never get the opportunity to represent their country.”
Mancini has won the Premier League at Manchester City and even worked in Russia with Zenit St Petersburg, but admits there’s nothing like coming home.
“I lived for years in Genoa, while I grew up on a football level at Bologna and will always hold that city close to my heart too.
“It was good in Manchester, despite the constant rain. St Petersburg is a truly beautiful city, but a bit too cold for my liking. To be honest, the thing I missed the most about Italy was the sun. When you’re away from home, you miss more or less everything.”
