Mancini: ‘My Inter would’ve won Champions League’

Roberto Mancini believes he would’ve won the Treble with Inter too, but regrets “believing what they told me” in his second spell at San Siro.

Now the CT of the Italy squad and fresh from winning all 10 qualifiers for Euro 2020, Mancio spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about his career at club level, which included two different experiences at Inter.

“We had built a very strong team, but after I left they added another four or five decisive players,” said Mancini of his 2004-08 tenure.

“We had built a very strong team, but after I left they added another four or five decisive players,” said Mancini of his 2004-08 tenure.

“I think that sooner or later, Inter would’ve managed to win the Champions League with the era inaugurated by me. Of course, the credit must also go undoubtedly to Jose Mourinho.”

The tactician returned after winning the Premier League with Manchester City and an experience at Galatasaray, taking the Inter job from November 2014 to August 2016.

“I should’ve paid more attention, instead I went on believing what they told me. Nonetheless, we were top of the Serie A table for several months and with a little more time, we could’ve succeeded then too.

“That wasn’t the case, that is football and you cannot deal in what-if scenarios.”
