Italy CT Roberto Mancini has laughed off possibly matching Vittorio Pozzo’s run of nine straight wins. “We still have two World Cups to catch up on…”

Mancini is victory over Liechtenstein away from equalling the run of nine set by Pozzo, who led Italy to successive World Cup triumphs in 1934 and 1938.

“I’d like us to finish top of the group, reaching 30 points and giving minutes to those who have played less until now,” he said at a Press conference.

“I’d like to experiment with some young players in time for the Euros. The latter will be different to what we’ve had to face until now. There will obviously be more difficulties.

“We still have one more game [to match Pozzo] – and then two World Cups to catch up on. He’s a legend so it’s not worth talking about.”

With qualification for Euro 2020 secure, the former Inter boss can afford to experiment in Liechtenstein tomorrow.

“I think I’ll change several players, but I’m still not certain. Sirigu will play, as will Belotti – who isn’t a second choice but is rather on par with Immobile – Zaniolo, one of Izzo and Di Lorenzo, plus one of Grifo and El Shaarawy.

“I’ll probably also play Biraghi. Romagnoli, on the other hand, isn’t very well. However, I won’t change the whole team because that would be risky and I don’t want us to underestimate this game.”
