Italy boss Roberto Mancini insists the Azzurri must have the strength to react and get more significant victories than the ones they already obtained.

The Azzurri CT spoke to the media during an event in Milan. Inevitably, he faced a few questions regarding Italy’s elimination from the World Cup play-offs.

“Sport is made of victories and defeats. Sometimes there are incredible victories, like ours’ at the Euros,” he said as quoted by Sportmediaset.

“We are still the defending champions and we’ll be so for the next two years. That’s important. Sometimes you must face difficult situations, like in football.

“We must have the strength to react. Great emotions can emerge and lead to even bigger victories than the ones we obtained.”

  1. First and foremost this applies to Mancini.

Unfortunately I can see Mancini standing by Insigne and Immobile (especially when he continues to bang in the goals at club level) when they have mostly been substandard for Italy.

A sign of strength is to cast aside sentiment and objectively take stock of the last 10 games. A strong manager will have the good sense to see that certain things have not worked and that changes have to be made.

  2. Let’s wait and see, irrespective of how rubbish both are for Italy, in terms of age neither can offer anything going forward Insigne 33 next euro, Ciro 34. Mancini has two reasons to drop both, both wrong side of 30, and performance. Most managers would drop them for the latter even if they were both 5 years younger.

  3. Mancini is already integrating Raspadori. That should eliminate Insigne fully. Mancini reads Football Italia so I’m going to give him a little secret for the forward line that he will try out in the next few friendlies….

once Chiesa returns, this is how he should line them up

    Berardi…………..Raspadori………….Chiesa
    ……………………….Scamacca

    You’re welcome Mancini

  4. Berardi should never play… Complete waste of time. Another player who only turns up for his club.

  5. If anyone thinks Italy’s issues with not making the World Cup is all about Mancini then you don’t know football. There are big fundamental issues with Italian soccer. Until things start to change, it will be status quo. The problem in Italy is they like to talk about change, but never have the guts to act on it.

  6. @ForzaITA But how do you explain them qualifying for and winning the Euros? For me, the fundamental problem was firing blanks. You can’t have 1000+ shots on goal in the group and not find the target more often. I agree that reforms are needed but if Jorginho had scored either penalty or Berardi and Immobile not been cross-eyed, it would have been a different story. The chances were plentiful, we didn’t take them.

  7. For me Italy can go to Euro 2024 and win it, as far as I am concerned it means nothing. until the system is changed so Italian Club side consistency compete and win trophies and the national team is consistency at the business end of a World Cup, then nothing has changed and we have failed. If it sounds harsh it meant to because this failure has gone on long enough. IT NEEDS TO CHANGE AND FAST!!!!.
