Italy CT Roberto Mancini said the Azzurri have tried to change their mentality. ‘We have always been recognised as a team who defends’.

The Azzurri won 10 out of 10 games in the European qualifiers and are preparing for the opener of Euro 2020 at the Olimpico on June 11.

Italy face Turkey in the first match and the expectations have increased after Mancini took over at Coverciano. By midnight, the CT will have to pick 26 players for the Euro 2020 squad.

After having failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, Mancini has brought back the enthusiasm around the national team and the former Inter coach believes he has changed the defensive mentality too.

“We have always been recognised as a team who defend and counterattack, but things change, and we have tried,” Mancini told Sky Sport Italia.

“We have put in a different mentality and if the results arrive, everything is easier. Things are going well and we are sure we can play good football and have our chances to win in the end.”

Italy are drawn in Group A with Turkey, Switzerland and Wales, playing all the group stage games in the Italian capital.
