Italy CT Roberto Mancini said the 2022 World Cup qualifying Group C should ‘not be underestimated’, as the Azzurri are up against Switzerland and Northern Ireland.

The draw of the qualifiers for Qatar 2022 was held today and Italy were placed in Group C with Switzerland, Northern Ireland, Bulgaria and Lithuania.

And the Azzurri CT’s stressed his men can ‘never lose sight of the target’ and added they are going to Euro 2020 to win next summer.

“It’s a group that shouldn’t be underestimated,” Mancini told Sky Sport Italia. “Switzerland is the second worst we could fish.

“They could very well figure among the top seeds. Of course, they will not be happy they caught us.

“It doesn’t change when we face them, we know where we want to go. In any case, it will be a group full of pitfalls, we should never lose sight of the final target.

“We go to the European Championship to win, we know it’s not easy and it will take a bit of luck, but that’s the intent.”

On the European Championship next summer, he added: “We have a strong and well-established group, but many interesting players are coming up and we monitor them.

“In May, we will evaluate and make the choices, hoping there are no injuries. We will go to the European Championship to be protagonists and try to win.”
