Roberto Mancini “always believed that Italy had talented players” and felt confident when taking on the Nazionale role.

The Azzurri secured their spot at Euro 2020 with last night’s 2-0 win over Greece, a 100 per cent record in the seven games of Group J.

“I always believed that Italy had talented players. We might have to wait a little for their maturation, but the talent is there nonetheless,” said Mancini at the Festival dello Sport.

“I always believed that Italy had talented players. We might have to wait a little for their maturation, but the talent is there nonetheless,” said Mancini at the Festival dello Sport.

“At times there are situations, like missing out on the 2018 World Cup qualification, but I still think Italian football provides some of the best players in the world. That is why I felt so positive going into this job, as I knew I just had to show faith and wait for the players.

“It is a positive that this is a very young Italy squad, because it means more and more young players are getting time on the field in Serie A too.”
