“We need a better performance, because it’s all about improving game by game, realising there are going to be different difficulties to deal with,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

After the 3-0 win away to Greece, he brought in defender Gianluca Mancini, winger Federico Bernardeschi and striker Fabio Quagliarella.

“Bernardeschi and Quagliarella are sharper, Federico Chiesa and Andrea Belotti used up a lot of energy with the pressing game against Greece.”

Just before the game, Italy were eliminated from the U20 World Cup with a 1-0 defeat to Ukraine, as Gianluca Scamacca’s last-gasp equaliser was disallowed.

“It’s disappointing for the Under-20 side, as it was a semi-final and a draw would’ve been the fair result after 90 minutes.”
