Italy coach Roberto Mancini believes Gigio Donnarumma is the best goalkeeper in the world and will ‘help PSG win the Champions League’ but is sceptical about staging a World Cup every two years.

The former Milan shot-stopper made his Champions League debut against Manchester City earlier this week in PSG’s 2-0 win over Pep Guardiola’s side.

However, he’s only played three games for the Ligue 1 giants so far, sparking rumours of a possible return to Italy, where Juventus would be open to signing him.

“He played a great game against Manchester City,” Mancini said during the event The Young Hope, as quoted by Calciomercato.com.

“He is the best goalkeeper in the world and even if PSG already have another top goalkeeper, I don’t think Donnarumma will spend much time on the bench.”

On Wednesday, the Azzurri face Spain in the Nations League semifinals and could face Belgium or France in the Final.

They will then host Switzerland in a key World Cup qualifying match on November 12.

“We hope to play a good semifinal and, if possible, also a good Final,” said Mancini.

“They are the four best European countries and for us, the Nations League is important.

“Everybody will be given a chance to play, not only those who won the Euros.”

Nations League: Mancini names Italy squad

Mancini included Lorenzo Pellegrini, Giorgio Chiellini and Marco Verratti in his 23-man squad list for the semis against La Roja.

Mancini was also asked his thought on a potential World Cup held every two years.

“I don’t want to say no or yes, but the World Cup is such an extraordinary thing that waiting for four years has become an emotion.

“It could become a normal thing if they decide to play it every two years.”
